How to properly utilize PTFE thread seal tape?

1. Ensure all connecting parts are free from debris and maintain a clean surface.

2. Be mindful of the wrapping direction. For instance, when installing an angle valve into the wall’s inner thread, which requires a clockwise motion, wrap the PTFE tape counterclockwise. This counter-directional wrapping guarantees the valve tightens properly without risk of loosening.

3. During application, wrap the PTFE thread seal tape with firm tension to ensure it clings to the thread. Maintain a tight wrap to prevent loosening. After wrapping, employ a twisting hand motion to secure it further, or apply pressure during the wrapping process.

4. While there isn’t a strict rule for the number of layers, the goal is to achieve a tight seal without leaks. Experience suggests wrapping over ten layers to maximize sealing efficiency.

5. Apply modest force when tightening the thread; excessive force isn’t required to prevent leaks. A firm hand feel is adequate for effective sealing.
